About us

At Pokapoka Kitchen, we are dedicated to preparing Japanese meals.

We are specialized to supporting those in the health and tech industries.

Inspired by the Japanese phrase pokapoka, meaning “warm and comforting,” we work to prepare meals that provide a sense of warmth and comfort.

We understand that busy workdays often limit access to appealing, nourishing food, and meals are frequently rushed or skipped altogether.

We hope that while you are eating a Pokapoka Kitchen meal at your work meeting or other company event, our meal is able to offer a small pause in the middle of a busy day: a chance to slow down, recharge, and feel genuinely nourished.

We are located in San Diego, CA.

Concept

We are specialized in providing meals to create a moment of comfort and nourishment for those who spend their days working to improve the lives of others.

moment of calm and care in the middle of a busy day.

Mission & Vision

To become a trusted food partner for groups of the health industry who care for and/or support structures that care for others
— because they deserve to be cared for themselves.

Problem

Food can be one of the highlights of attending a meeting or an event amidst a busy work week for workers in the health/biotech industry who often face limited and uninspiring food options on a day-to-day basis (see below). Yet, catering for meetings or events frequently mirrors the same unexciting choices, leaving participants disappointed.

→ Workers often have none or limited food options on-site (i.e. vending machine, coffee cart), or a cafeteria with few healthy or appealing options.

→ Limited or unprotected meal times make it difficult to go off-site for food, wait in long lunch lines, or rely on unpredictable delivery windows of food delivery services.

→ Furthermore, traditional app-based deliveries (e.g., Uber Eats, DoorDash) often include inflated menu prices, delivery fees, and service charges, making them expensive for frequent individual ordering.

While many catering companies exist, few specialize in serving health-related organizations, making it difficult to reliably serve
this sector and tailor to their needs.

Few catering options specialize in serving Japanese cuisine, especially for group orders or work meetings/events.
